Top surgery fund for Connors!

Hi friends!
My name is Sarah Connors (although I generally go by my last name, Connors!) and I am a transmasculine nonbinary person seeking gender-affirming top surgery!
I have been on HRT for a few months and top surgery is my end goal; once I get this done I'm going to be in a great place to live a happy, fulfilled life in a body that matches my gender.
Until recently, my surgeon's office and I were under the assumption that my insurance would be covering a significant portion of this procedure. Turns out that this is America! so that's not the case - my plan has an exclusion for gender-affirming surgery. My surgeon's office called me today to update me on this, and a $4K bill just turned into $11K, so I need a bit of help.
For full transparency, the details of the bill are as follows:
$8,000: procedure
$2,070: hospital fees
$966: anesthesia
The GFM is for $7.5K because after fees, that is the difference between what I was planning to pay and this new price. I can handle a $4K bill, but $11K is staggering.
I have reached out to my place of work to try to update our health plan to not have this exclusion. It seems to be illegal in my state to exclude gender-affirming health care from plans like this, but there may be a loophole I don't know about.
If they agree, my surgery will be postponed until 2020 when the updated health plan kicks in, and I will probably refund this GFM because 4K is manageable for me. If they do not, I'll have to pay $11K regardless, so I'll try to still aim for my September 20 date.
Thank you all immensely for taking the time to read this, for listening to me talk about this stuff on social media, and for supporting me in every way - whether with funds, words, or good thoughts. I appreciate every one of you and will do my best to pay it forward.
