Torbay Seagull Rescue Fundraising
Donation protected
Hi, I am seeking financial support to help my partner Dee Robles with her tireless crusade of rescuing baby and injured adult seagulls. This is a purely voluntary service that Dee provides across the whole of the Torbay area - Torquay, Brixham, Paignton and Totnes - predominantly during the May to August period when babies are born, falling from rooftops and aimlessly wondering around busy roads whilst Mom is desperately trying to protect and feed them - often risking her own life and getting hurt in the process. Dee’s passion started around 5 years ago when she would help collect the odd seagull for - and deliver them to - a local Wildlife Bird Sanctuary. This Sanctuary no longer provides for seagulls so Ash Rescue in Dartmouth has taken on what is now a mammoth task (which is obviously great news) however because Ash Rescue is a ferry journey away Dee is having to keep hold of the birds for 3-4 days and transport them twice a week. This means that because of the lack of volunteers out on the streets Dee has found herself working morning, noon and night, 7 days a week in the last 4 months to act on public call-outs and to then look after the seagulls before transporting to Ash. Dee has personally rescued and aided over 300 seagulls in this period of time alone and as you can imagine, the cost of buying food, bedding, holding pens / sheds, rescue equipment, fuel and ferry passes is considerable and is just not sustainable without additional funding. Whilst seagulls are not everybody's favourite (!) it is so rewarding to see the vulnerable babies flourish and then fly off to the sea to start their new life. And with the word spreading rapidly that there is someone in the Bay that does seagull rescue next year is likely to see Dee called out to rescue in excess of 500 seagulls! So, I am asking you wonderful people if you’d be so kind as to donate a few pounds for her cause and to also spread the word amongst family and friends. Thankyou in anticipation.
