Tornado Relief for Lynda Turner
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Avery Turner and I am the son of Lynda Turner, a retired 7th-grade math teacher who taught in Garden City, KS at Abe Hubert Middle School and Horace Good Middle School for 30 years. Currently, she is a front-end supervisor at Sam's Club in town. She is a proud member of the Garden City community, who taught and provided tutoring for thousands of students in her many years of education and still helps provide for the needs of others and many small businesses in her role as a supervisor. She is also very giving and gracious to those in need, many times buying groceries and other necessities for those who are struggling and giving to charity regularly. She is a member of Garden Valley Church and a devout Christian, striving to be Christ-like in her interactions with other people.

Now, my mom could use some support from others, and I hope you might be willing to help. Not only is she still struggling to cope with the death of my father, Kevin Turner in June 2021 from prostate cancer, but on Thursday, July 20th, 2023, the tornado that hit north of Garden City destroyed my mom's home and totaled her car. There was hail the size of tennis balls during the storm and Mom was home alone during the terrifying ordeal. Thankfully, my mom made it into the cellar and avoided any injury. She had only been living there for a few months and had spent thousands of dollars in loans to fix up the house and make it a home. Many windows broke and her roof has numerous holes in it from the wind and hail, leaving many things inside the home destroyed beyond use and all of the flooring and much of the walls soaked and ruined by water damage.

Clean-up on the property has not made much headway yet, as the electricity wasn't functioning for the majority of the property until an electrician was able to come out on July 26. As such, all of the water in the house has been allowed to sit causing even further damage to the floors and foundations of the house. Some of the walls may have to be ripped open/down and rebuilt to repair severe water and rot damage on the inside. Most, if not all, of her appliances need to be replaced due to water and electrical damage to the inner components of the devices. Much of her furniture has been damaged directly by hail or indirectly by water. Shards of glass are embedded in the furniture, floors, walls, and even the ceilings. A restoration company has been called to help with clean-up, but they cannot come out until insurance approves her claim. She will eventually need to find a new vehicle as well.
Lynda is very emotionally distraught at the loss of so much of her home and could use some financial support, especially as the insurance company said they will not be able to inspect the property until at least August 2, and will not provide any funds until the property is viewed and officially declared uninhabitable in its current condition. Until the insurance adjustor comes out, all of her expenses must be paid out of pocket, including housing, groceries, costs of clean up, the mortgage and utility payments on the house she can't currently occupy, etc. Beyond that, it is unlikely the insurance company will give sufficient funds to cover all of the damage that has been caused. We expect it will be a minimum of 3 months until the house is repaired to a habitable state again, as many of the contractors needed to repair the foundation, walls, windows, etc. are booked out for at least a couple of months. We would appreciate it if you could give to her cause, no matter how small an amount; Anything you can give helps tremendously. All money given will go towards her expenses until her home is livable again and any repairs and replacements that insurance will not cover. Even if you cannot give, we would still appreciate it if you could share this gofundme with others on social media and spread awareness for her cause. My mom has helped so many in her decades of being an active member of the Garden City community, and she would greatly appreciate it if you would be willing to help her in her time of need.
Thank you so much for listening and God Bless!
