Tornado Relief for Einstein Schools
Donation protected
I am an administrator at Einstein Charter Schools. We are a network of public open-admissions schools serving the New Orleans East community. Einstein has been repeatedly recognized for academic excellence, including being 1 of only 15 charter schools nationwide designated as a High Quality Charter School by the United States Department of Education. Our student body is approximately 1,400 students almost 100% minority. All students qualify for free breakfast, lunch and dinner. About 1/3 of our students do not speak English at home. Despite these challenges, our schools have flourished because of the hardwork of our teachers, the students and our dedicated community.
Tuesday, February 7th our schools and the surrounding community were struck by an unexpected and devastating tornado. All staff and students are safe, but it was a terrifying experience. While our campuses only experience minor damage, many of our student families and teachers were not so fortunate. Some lost their homes and businesses as the storms path leveled whole corridors in our neighborhood. You can see the damage in the picture above. It was taken from the roof of our Sherwood Forest school.
Our goal with this campaign is to make sure that our students are provided for while their parents put their lives back together. We will use these funds to pay for school uniforms, school supplies and other supports for our affected teachers, families and students during this difficult time. 100% of these funds will go to that purpose. We want to help our community heal by enabling our students to continue to go to school, ready to learn and return to normality as much as possible.
Please feel free to contact us at [email redacted] with any questions.
