Each one of us deserves the opportunity to live with and celebrate who they are, and it's up each one of us individually to confront hatred where ever we see it. There have been many high profiled examples of homophobia and transphobia in Ontario lately - from a violent gay bashing on Toronto Island to some Catholic school boards refusing to fly the pride flag. You can show your support, acknowledgment, acceptance, and respect for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and adults in our community by displaying a pride flag.
Building on work done by Nicole Boyd and Alvin Tedjo, I have 50 pride progress flags to distribute in my home Rockcliffe and Junction communities. We are asking for a minimum donation of $10 for each flag. The funds and any additional donations (which are strongly encouraged and appreciated), will go to Friends of Ruby.
Cost: $10 (and any additional donations are most welcome)
Pickup: St Clair and Runnymede; Saturday June 19 @ 4pm

What is Friends of Ruby?
"Friends of Ruby is dedicated to the progressive well-being of LGBTQI2S youth (aged 16-29) through mental health services, social services and housing. Our vision – a world where all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and two-spirit young people feel validated, involved and feel empowered to lead healthier lives." - www.friendsofruby.ca
Why the pride progress flag?
"While retaining the common six-stripe rainbow design as a base, the "Progress" variation adds a chevron along the hoist that features black, brown, light blue, pink, and white stripes to bring those communities (marginalized people of color, trans individuals, and those living with HIV/AIDS and those who have been lost) to the forefront; "the arrow points to the right to show forward movement, while being along the left edge shows that progress still needs to be made."
