Shannon's Toxic Mold Recovery Fund
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sunday and I'm fundraising for Shannon and Kasey's recovery from devastating toxic mold poisoning.
.
Shannon recently had been renting a room in a lovely home in a delightful wooded neighborhood with sweet little canine partner-in-crime Kasey. Shannon noticed over the last year that sleep became difficult, energy levels dropped, and illnesses increased, but attributed these to various other causes. Little Kasey was also impacted with health issues.
.
In March, out of an inexplicable desperation, Shannon took Kasey on an impromptu multi-day road trip out-of-state. Miraculously, within a week, 75% of Shannon's symptoms were gone. Kasey was also feeling better! And that's when it sunk in for Shannon: the problem was coming from inside the house.
.
.
Shannon and Kasey had been poisoned and were suffering from TOXIC MOLD SYNDROME!
.
Shannon soon learned that every personal belonging that was not made out of glass or metal had to be trashed. You can imagine the devastation. Textiles, sheets, shoes, books, souvenirs, pictures, furniture, housewares, board games, plastic, wood, rubber, nylon, etc. Anything with any of those materials inside as a component had to be destroyed. Kasey's belongings, too!
.
Shannon is already lamenting the loss of all office equipment, speakers, favorite lounge chairs, shelves, rugs, and a good vacuum. Not to mention sentimental items such as framed art that had been collected over the years. Shannon had recently bought a cello (size 4/4) as they were enjoying learning on the rental instrument so much, they committed to the big purchase. It's gone. Basically there is nothing left. Except Kasey, a few clothes, and the car.

Normally, when we suffer a loss like this, certain insurance policies will kick in and replace belongings. But no insurance policies cover mold destruction. Not the landlords, not Shannon's renters policy, not Shannon's auto policy, nothing. The landlord has no interest in helping replace any items or being cooperative as Shannon leaves the space they used to call home, instead trying to monetize Shannon's exit. That's another story we can save for later. (If you've ever dealt with a bad landlord, you know how stressful this can be.)
.
What about Shannon's small business, Radiant Wrench ? Shannon is a talented mechanic who repairs bikes and helps people get excited about maintaining their bikes themselves. It's difficult to drive that business, recover from toxic mold poisoning, try to replace belongings, shop for a new dwelling, all at once. The burden of it all has become too much. Shannon has been couch surfing and house sitting intermittently for the last couple of months since any money earned from Radiant Wrench goes to replacing items. Even that is dwindling.
.
.
Shannon is beyond grateful to be slowly returning to health but acknowledges this means effectively starting from zero. And that's not always a linear, steady progression health wise. In this case, there have been unexpected health set backs. It is my hope and dream that we as a community come together to stand Shannon back up and ready to roll forward with a healthy life again.
