Tough times and big love for the Testas

My name is Melanie (Melly) Testa and I would like to raise funds in support of my Mother and Father.

Unfortunately, my Father has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, this in addition to several underlying conditions, makes him quite fragile and in need of constant care. My mother is doing a fabulous job caretaking my Dad, but they need more help than I can provide.

If you know me, you know my father. My wild creativity, my outspoken nature and my bold defiance of social norms were born of my Fathers' rebellious nature. He taught me to fight back, to stand my ground, to be my own form of Pippi Longstockings.

Growing up, I experienced my Dad study music, run, bicycle and learn to sail, which became his lifelong passion. By way of cooking, my Father has integrated himself into the hearts and bellies of everyone he meets. Just ask about the fried dough pizza parties! He is such a loving man, ready to laugh and make others feel lighter.

My Mom and Dad live on the shoreline, in Connecticut. Locally, my Father is known as 'The Captain' or Captain Pat. It is refreshing to experience the neighborhood children, excitedly run to greet my Father with the words, 'Captain Pat!!' My Dad is the one with all the maritime tools and skills too. My parents love nothing more than summer sun and windswept beach time with family and friends.

It is my Fathers' wish that we, as family, release his spirit and ashes among the beauty of the coastal Long Island Sound. This where he and my Mother spent many a summer day, sailing the ocean blue. We would also like to throw a Celebration of Life Party, after my Dad passes. We envision a beach party, perhaps a clam bake and/or bonfire, where we gather together, laugh and tell the crazy stories my Father helped bring to fruition.

It is my hope to raise enough funds for both funeral expenses and the Celebration of Life Party for my Father. If we could pull together and exceed my proposed donation amount? Please donate further! I would love to afford my Mother time to mourn, while reading books, in the sunlight of their beautiful little seaside home. Please help me soften this difficult moment for both my parents.
