Our friend , my father , suffered a serious spinal cord injury in north Co.Dublin in September . He was doing what he does on a daily basis & what he’s loves & has been doing for over 30 years , John was in work on a Friday morning driving he’s beloved Tractor , he found himself in a dangerous situation which ended in the tractor overturning into a ditch , he then found himself trapped in the overturned tractor for 1 hour and 45 mins , before members of Dublin Fire Brigade extricated him from the tractor and rushed him of to hospital where then he underwent emergency spinal surgery in the Mater hospital. (L1 Asia A conus Melullaris injury) as a result John presents with lower limb weakness , sensory deficits below level of injury , fatigue & neurogenic bowel & bladder . John is dependent on a wheelchair for indoor & outdoor mobility.
John is the most hard working , fun loving character. For those who know him they would agree when I say he would literally give you his last breath , he takes great pride in his work & as a role model .
John was admitted to the National Rehabilitation hospital in November after his stay in ICU & spinal unit in the Mater hospital, he is currently continuing treatment in the (NRH). All the staff , the doctors, nurse’s, physio’s, therapist’s at both the Mater hospital & the NRH have been Phenomenal ! Progress is slow but the determination & positivity John has got is
Inspirational.
While John is still working so hard at NRH our aim is to try get his home ready , he cannot get up stairs, so we will need to get him an extension we’re he can have a bedroom & washroom , when time comes for John to leave the NRH he will need to go to a special gym 3 times a week and transport is a struggle with the current vehicle we have as it not possible for John to access or even place his wheelchair, so we will need to purchase a vehicle that John can access and can fit his wheelchair.
We are also going to be doing a fundraiser night in his local Gaa club in Lusk and a group of us are going to be cycling to Galway which is 12hours 38mins (238k) so if you’s could show some support we would really appreciate it.
John has a heart of a lion and will never give up ! We really need your support ! Please consider contributing to this go fund me , we are so grateful for what ever you’s can do.
