Help Towards Surgical Expense to Save My Other Hip
Donation protected
Hello, thanks for checking in. My name is Jamie Howard and I am raising money for my second hip surgery needed within the year. In early 2020 I noticed a persistent tightness in the front of my hip that never resolved despite constant work and PT. This progressed to a constant ache and I sought help from an orthopedic specialist. An MRI found that my labrum was destroyed with damage to the articular cartilage as well, and was told I needed a hip replacement at 29. I went for second opinions and all agreed with the initial diagnosis, but the fifth told me he could save my hip. Last July Dr. Ellman repaired the damage in my hip and gave me back the ability to walk. Unfortunately, less than two months post-op I began to notice a familiar pain in my opposite hip. Another MRI revealed my left hip has equal damage requiring another procedure.
These past two years have been extremely difficult as I have slowly lost the ability to do activities I love. Currently, something as simple as walking my dogs is difficult. A hip replacement rather than the hip preservation procedure would mean I'll never be able to ski, hike, or play recreational sports at any normal level ever again. Additionally, a hip replacement means more surgery roughly every 10 years to replace components as they wear. The hip preservation procedure would return me to my active lifestyle and bring back a quality of life that has been absent to me for years and also would provide an 80% chance of never requiring a hip replacement in the future
I appreciate all your support in helping me get back my life!
