Town Crier Championships UK and Australia 2024

OYEZ! Salutations!

I am the Town Crier representing Campaspe Shire, Victoria and Murray River Council, New South Wales (Echuca, Moama and Districts) Australia.

As an award winning ambassador for the area, I have been invited to compete against thirty Town Criers from across the UK and Canada, in the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers' Championship. This major event will be hosted by the Town of Montgomery, Wales, UK, in September 2024.

I am the only Australian Town Crier to be invited to compete and I would appreciate your assistance to help fund my travel expenses, please.

Upon my return from the UK, I will then be travelling to Parkes, New South Wales, Australia (home of The Dish and The Elvis Festival) to also compete in the Australian Town Crier Guild Championship!

I have previously been the Runner-up World Champion Town Crier, Open New Zealand Champion and three times winner of the Australian Town Crier Guild Championship, as well as numerous International Ambassadorial awards. Being the first lady Town Crier to achieve many of these accolades, I have discovered competing against male Town Criers is an inspiration for me to find a way to win.

Being able to compete against my peers, always involves huge travel distances but it also gives me an opportunity to promote my appointed area as the ideal visitor destination to people from all walks of life. A bonus is that competition sharpens my skills as a Town Crier. Being able to make announcements with confidence, charm and clarity as well as volume, without artificial amplification, are aspects of this traditional ambassadorial role, which had its origins back in the early Grecian days! Though the Town Crier role is much older, the position was formalised after the Norman Conquest of 1066, to keep the public informed of all court announcements, in the UK. The role of Town Crier is found in many countries worldwide, in various formats, according to their respective cultures and traditions. Nowadays this almost lost art form is being revived as a unique way to engage the public and keep them informed of events - you can also hire a Town Crier to MC weddings, funerals and promotional activities! I am also a Commonwealth Registered Civil Marriage Celebrant, which means that in Australia, I can legally perform your wedding ceremony as Town Crier too.
