Helping Hands for Helen

Hi there, Hola, Hello. My name is Melissa, and I'm here to ask you to join me in showing your love and support for my amazing aunt, Helen Towle.

Everyone who knows Helen understands that she is, above all else, a Care Giver. She has spent both her personal life as well as her professional life attending to others with an uncanny ability to really see people. She has the kindest heart and truly cares for all with the many lovingly adorned hats she wears as Mother, Grandmother (Mimi), Sister, Aunt, Nurse, Friend, Colleague, and more.

Now, sometimes those hats come with a side of sass, right? She calls things like she sees them, she doesn't suffer foolishness, and she dishes out sarcasm like it's in her DNA. She gives all of herself, all that she has, and more. But she rarely accepts anything in return; her pride being as formidable as her heart. So, if you're like me you've learned that sometimes you just have to do things for her without waiting for her permission!

With that being said, this is the time, and the opportunity as a community of Helen fans, friends and loved ones, to give back to her.

Helen is currently stuck in limbo and needs as much love, support, and prayers as we can all give. After spending the Fall on sick leave recovering from not one but two heart attacks, she returned to work when her PTO ran out. Within days however, she was back in the hospital. This time learning, shockingly, that she had Stage 4 cancer, but the doctors were unclear about its origin. Long story short, she has been waiting months (MONTHS!!!) to get a proper diagnosis and start treatment for a rare, and very aggressive cancer that has spread rapidly through her body. After several hospitals and multiple specialists reviewed her case, they believe the cancer likely originated in the bile ducts of her liver, and were preparing to finally start a chemo regiment. Unfortunately she is currently so sick from waiting for help, that she is in ICU battling an infection before they will even start chemo.

It's unclear if Helen will be able to return to the hospital as a Nurse rather than a patient someday. And that day is far away if so. What is certain is that she doesn't currently have any paychecks coming in, and she hasn't in a while. She does have a mortgage and utilities, mouths to feed, and revolving bills that don't stop even when she must. Not to mention what her bills for the hospital stays and treatment will look like.

I wish I could wave a magic wand and make all of this right. To give her back even a fraction of the light and love and joy she's given me over the years. Imagine if we could hand her back all of the laughs she's given us over the course of her whole life, when she needs them most. How healing would that be? Laughter is good medicine. Maybe a lifetime's dose could blast that cancer back into oblivion.

I don't pretend I can cure cancer, but I'm sure as heck gonna waive all the wands and woo woo energy I have trying! What I can surely do is help take one of the biggest burdens off of her shoulders, and raise as much dang money as I can for a truly deserving woman and her family. You with me?!
