Getting Michael back on his feet

Dear friends, family, and kind hearted individuals,

My name is Alexa, I’m writing this and seeking your support for my brother Michael. In one moment, while walking home from work, his entire life was changed. He moved to LA for a brighter future and against many odds he found a job that he loved, a partner that he adores, and a fulfilling routine. However, On September 27th an unfortunate accident occurred, abruptly halting all his progress that he’s been making to better his life.

Michael was walking home from work after working an extra shift when he became the victim of a hit-and-run. My brother did not see it coming, and was hit by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, only to be left on the pavement suffering serious traumatic injuries as the driver fled the scene. That guy gets to walk away from this while my brother has had his life changed forever.

Luckily my brother is alive but his injuries have been difficult to navigate. At this time Michael is unable to walk and is waiting for two knee surgeries in order to gain the ability to walk again. He also suffers from Foot drop on his left foot after extensive nerve damage on the left side of his body. My brothers life has completely been turned upside down and although he is in good spirits, I can’t imagine what he is truly going through. As his sister I am doing everything I can to help him while he is back home.

I want to thank all the nurses, doctors, physical therapists and medical staff at California Hospital for taking such good care of my brother and helping to make our family at ease throughout his stay. He couldn’t have done it without you guys and we are forever grateful for you!

My brother Michael’s resilience has always been inspiring, but the road to recovery will be long and costly. He will be out of work quite some time while he recovers after the necessary surgeries occur. I have set up this fundraiser with the aim of providing Michael with the help he needs.
