Little Fox Tractor School

Donation protected
Little Fox Tractor School is a grassroots, mutual aid, and community organizing initiative supporting marginalized farming communities in Georgia. Our goal is to raise $25,000 in mutual aid funds to purchase a new and high quality tractor. The tractor will be used for an ongoing tractor education series geared towards marginalized groups in the farming community,  taught by Daniel Guzman, longtime Georgia farmer and contributor to the local farm community. In this two-pronged effort, the tractor will also be used to support Daniel’s farm-owning goal.

Why tractor education?

Tractors are an important factor in the long-term viability of farms, farmers, and farm employees. Tractor knowledge is often the difference between a sustainable farming career, and underpaid, unsustainable farm work. A tractor can allow growth and long-term sustainability to farmers at all levels.

Why support this tractor education initiative?

This program is offered specifically to marginalized groups in the farming community, because they are often left out of the benefits offered by more advanced equipment and training. Many farm employees of marginalized identities are either stuck in underpaid farm jobs, or opt to leave farming altogether due to lack of advancement, and this is a major loss to what could be a much richer farming community. The communities we are serving make up the backbone of the agriculture industry, but have limited access to opportunities to develop their careers in farming.

This program teaches tractor repair and maintenance in addition to operation, which is especially key as large tractor manufacturers have been steadily seizing control of all aspects of tractor repair and maintenance, rendering it impossible for farmers to repair their equipment without owing hundreds and thousands to the tractor manufacturing corporation.

Why support a new farm for Daniel?

Daniel has worked in Georgia agriculture for many years, making significant contributions to the community and training countless farmers. Having immigrated from Mexico ten years ago, the career he has built in farming has been hard-won. The farm he and Lindy Kloepfer have been building over several years started with very little investment and has continued to grow, but they still do not own their own farm. A new, high quality tractor would offer Daniel and Lindy a long-term infrastructure to continue growing and operating. Despite being the backbone of much of the agriculture in the US, farmers of immigrant status rarely have access to owning and operating their own farms. Supporting a farm for Daniel and the Tractor Education Program would mean investing in a Latin American farmer and the Latin American farm community.
