Tracy Chamberlin's Son Tom Chamberlin
Donation protected
Hi, I am fundraising on behalf of the Tom Chamberlin Family.
Tracy Chamberlin is a close friend and co-worker. Tracy is a popular substitute teacher for Arlington and works almost daily at Vail Farm Elementary.
Tracy's son Tom (33) has long suffered from debilitating seizures as a result of epilepsy. These seizures have made life difficult and painful, but Tom never gave up hope of finding a way to live independently. He has been living in Ohio while his parents and sister Anna live here in the Hudson Valley.
Recently, to find relief and control the seizures Tom made the difficult decision to undergo surgery to map the areas of his brain. Following the surgery, Tracy reports:
"Tom, my son, went through surgery just fine. He's such a trooper. They were able to finally locate where his seizures start. Because the seizures start near the language center they did something they call brain mapping- it creates a 3D picture of where the seizures start. Really cool and his surgeon and epileptologist are some of the best I've ever seen(and we've seen a lot!!). He'll have the probes out tomorrow and be discharged on Friday. Then it will just be a matter of waiting to see what the surgeon decides to do. I'm home from Ohio now and Anna flies out Friday to support her big brother when he's discharged."
Then this happened...
Tom was recovering when he had an aneurysm. The brain bleed was severe and the stroke left Tom paralyzed on one side and aphasic (without speech).
Tracy immediately got on a plane and raced to be at her son's side at Ohio State University Medical Center.
The Chamberlin family needs our help.
Immediate need: securing a lawyer to get guardianship of their son to pay his bills, manage his medical care, etc.
The family needs lodging and airfare to travel back and forth from their farm in Dover Plains to Ohio.
Tracy had to take time off from her teaching job, but she does not get paid sick time. They need cash to replace her earnings.
Some things you may already know about this wonderful family. The Chamberlins live simply and sustainably. They have an amazing little farm where most of their food is grown organically. They raise chickens and bees. They can, freeze and preserve their food. They grow medicinal herbs and make teas and ointments for better health They always donate a portion of their harvest to those less fortunate. They barter for things they need and share with others. Tracy invites people to her home to teach them how to grow food, recycle, upcycle, reduce, reuse, and live a good life.
Tracy is a kind, intelligent gentle soul who is so worried about her eldest child. Can you help?
