Tying to capture the stories before they are gone, for the future generations to understand where this all began.

If you are passionate about the region we could really use everyone's support to help capture the history happening this summer.

Tradition: A Story From Glengarry

A Documentary following the community of Glengarry and the town of Maxville as they prepare for their Highland Games after two years of cancellations.

Glengarry County, Ontario, a rural region bordering the province of Quebec along the St.Lawrence river in Canada, is an area steeped in history, hardworking passionate people and ties to the nation's founding. Settled in 1784 by Scottish loyalists and became a destination for Scottish emigrants from the Highland Clearances through the18th and 19th centuries.

In 1881 the Atlantic Railway established a rail line from Montreal to Ottawa through the region, and one station received the nickname 'Macs'ville' by the french settlers in the area due to all the Scots who lived there.

In 1948 a wee idea was brought forth by four passionate men from the town of Maxville to put on a display of Scottish heritage. Today this "small" idea has now evolved to become one of the largest gatherings of its kind outside Scotland and the North American Pipe Band Championships™, The Glengarry Highland Games.

After two years of pent-up passion from this community of 10,000 who come from around the world, some not even having heritage ties to the event, from all walks of life, political backgrounds, income status and who call this small rural town of 800 "home" every August. The return of this grand Tradition has much more meaning than the outcomes of the competitions.

This story is about history, pride and participating in one's community and, more importantly, for the people of this proud historical eastern Ontario region, getting back to a way of life.

A truly unique way of life, only found in Glengarry, Ontario, Canada.
