Tragedy during triathlon❗️Iwona drowned ❗️

Donation protected
This was Iwona's first dream triathlon start. She prepared for a long time, she was so excited! No one thought that she would almost pay for the fulfilment of her dream with her life... This tragic accident no one could have predicted. Today we are fighting for my dear mother Iwona to come back to us. Please help!

For as long as I can remember, sport has always been very important to my mum. In the evenings after work, she would go out to the gym, exercise or the swimming pool. She was a model of self-denial for me, so I wasn't surprised when a few years ago she decided to try her hand at a triathlon - she had always loved swimming and cycling. All she had to do was add running, which she wasn't too keen on, to be able to fulfil the huge dream of completing a race!

The preparations themselves took a long time. Mum never did something before she was confident in her abilities. Countless hours of sweat poured on the bike, in the pool and while running. Finally, the time came for the first start.... Mum was very happy and positive. She didn't set herself up for a result - she wanted to prove herself and, above all, finish the run. No one expected that the most difficult moments of life were about to come....

While completing a section of the swim, my mother drowned - I guess that's just the way to put it. Her heart action was only restored after 15 minutes of resuscitation, but there was a lot of brain damage through hypoxia. The first moments in the hospital were a nightmare... We were all in shock and the doctors said that mum didn't stand much of a chance... They assumed that with this brain damage mum would remain in a vegetative state forever! But we knew mum. We knew that if anyone was going to beat this, it was her!

After a week, she opened one eye. These were moments of great happiness and the beginning of a fight. After 3 weeks in the ICU under a ventilator, the doctors decided to place a tracheotomy tube to allow her to breathe on her own. Initially, Mum was to stay under the ventilator, but the very next day she started breathing on her own! As time passed, more signs appeared, such as moving her eyeballs, clasping her hands for the first time, moving her head or putting a smile on her face. However, in order to return to any kind of fitness, mum requires specialised rehabilitation, which is far beyond our budget. Hence our request for help...

Mum is currently staying at the Votum rehabilitation centre in Kraków, Poland, where the staff do their best to help her.
At the moment we are struggling with quadriplegic spasticity. Mum requires constant care and several hours of rehabilitation, working with a neurologist and neuropsychologist every day. Mum has always loved helping others, it has given her a lot of joy, but now she needs to help herself. Together with family and friends, we will not give up, because we believe that her strong will, will allow her to get back to fitness! We will fight until the very end for her to return home on her own two feet.

We would like to thank you for all your help!
