This is the story of an incredible little boy who had found his passion of ice hockey at an early age on the San Francisco Sabercats.
Originally Michael had wanted to be a figure skater just like his older sister, Michelle. In one of his times on ice he was told that he was too big, and that he should try hockey. He did, and once he began it was almost impossible for his parents to get him off of the ice.
While soft spoken, Michael loved joking around with his friends and teammates, and sometimes wrestle with them too. With hockey, he was a fast study. He quickly progressed through skating school and joined the San Francisco Sabercats, one of the most competitive teams in the age bracket. With hard work and extra 1:1 sessions with skills coach and mentor, Allen Lin, he quickly established himself as a player to watch.
Within his first year he had worked him was up to the top 8U team. The day he found out the news, his mom sought out to say thank you to the coach. The response was, “For what? I didn’t do anything. He earned this,” which led to the biggest ear to ear grin you’ve ever seen on a child.
This past weekend while playing in the California State Winter Games in San Diego tragedy struck. There was a horrific accident at the hotel pool, and despite the best efforts of first responders and world-class doctors, Michael has passed.
Michael leaves behind an amazing mother and father, Susan and Li, and an angelic sister, Michelle. He will be missed deeply by us all.
