Tragic Car Accident:Please Help Gayal Pitts Black
Donation protected
On August 27th, 2022 our mother Gayal Pitts Black was in a tragic car accident in Boca Raton, Florida. She was hit from behind and a car pushed her directly into oncoming traffic where she was hit head-on by another vehicle. Her car was mangled so badly that the paramedics had to cut open the roof of the car to remove our mother. She was then taken to the ICU where she was found to have severe extensive injuries including massive blood loss, she had over 20 displaced fractures and degloving wound injuries on her legs and head. Doctors told us to prepare for the worst as she was likely not going to survive.
During the last three months, she has also had over 15 surgeries for her fractures and wound injuries. She has suffered numerous complications along the way including pneumonia, lung collapse, blood infections, wound infections along with cognitive and memory issues.
Despite multiple obstacles during this time our mother has fought so hard to stay alive as she really wants to get home again to be with her beloved cats and family. She is currently in rehab at the hospital where she is learning how to walk again and trying to regain some mobility. However, due to the extent of her injuries, she will now be significantly disabled and will require 24/7 care for the foreseeable future.
Unfortunately, the person who hit her had no insurance. She has amassed significant medical bills already due to this and home care will be extremely expensive. Her wishes are to be able to be cared for in her home and be home for the holidays.
For those of you who know our mother, she is a well-known and respected figure in the South Florida tennis community. As a mother of three successful tennis player daughters, she is highly regarded and well respected by the tennis community, players, coaches, and parents. She generously gives of her time assisting tennis parents with numerous phone calls offering advice.
If you know our mother then you know she loves three things in her life; tennis, her cats, and her family. Three things that she has been without for the last three months and we would be grateful for your support to help with care in her home.
