Donation protected
Hi, My name is Razi, and I am fundraising for my Uncle, namely; Bakir Junaideen and his 9-year-old son Zaid who were the victims of a recent drowning that occurred last Sunday, July 31st, at the Alouette River in Maple Ridge, BC. Bakir was in critical condition with life support at the Ridge Meadows hospital in Maple Ridge BC. The doctor advised that he had a slim chance of survival, and the family was preparing for the worst possible outcome; Bakir passed away at around 8:30 pm Wednesday, August 3rd.

It was a hot summer day last Sunday, 31st July; Bakir Junaideen joined his wife Farzana and their two sons Nabeel age 12 and Zaid, age nine, at the Alouette River in Maple Ridge Davidson’s Pool area in BC for a fun-filled day of tubing and water sports. This popular swimming location allows residents to cool off on a hot summer day.
Bakir had invited a few close friends and their families to join them at the park adjoining the river. A Long-standing Vancouver resident, Bakir is fond of outdoor activities with his family and friends. The river was full of people having fun, and Bakir was the first from his group to start tubing with his youngest son Zaid. It was fun moving through the rapids and rocks, but suddenly Zaid’s tube capsized, and Bakir instantly jumped into the river to rescue Zaid. Noticing the commotion, people in the river were able to recover Zaid, but unfortunately, no one saw that Bakir did not emerge from the water. It was Farzana who raised the alarm that her husband was missing, and many people started diving into the water in search of Bakir. After some time, Bakir’s body was extracted from the water by two off-duty firefighters on site on vacation and performed CPR. Around 3.20 pm, police, fire, and paramedics responded to the emergency calls and rushed Bakir to the Ridge Meadows Hospital in Maple Ridge. Bakir was unresponsive and reliant on a ventilator. Doctors have given up hope on recovery as the brain and other vital organs were not functioning, preparing the family to deal with the inevitable worst outcome of this tragic event. Bakir was in a vegetative state before his demise.

Bakir is self-employed, consummate IT professional and owns a computer web design and graphics business. He is the family's primary breadwinner, and his source of income is integral to the family’s operational expenses, and the income has now ceased due to this calamity.

Bakir's family urgently needs support to help them with their short-term and long-term needs, including house rent, food, medicine, and kids' expenses such as sports. This is an appeal by Bakir's family and friends to extend support to Farzana and her two sons due to this sudden tragedy.
