Tragic House Fire Mom and 5 Children Displaced
Donation protected
On 12/2/22 around 3:30am a fire began in my apartment at 92 Lucerne St in Boston.
Thankfully I was aware and quickly sprang into action attempting to put out the small fire. The air vents carried embers around the room and as fast as I was putting out one fire another was starting. As anyone would; I tried so hard to save our home; this accident didnt have to end with 3 families loosing it all. If our home was up to fire code and inspected; this wouldnt have resulted in such devastation and loss right before the holidays. Negligently our landlord did not have water sprinklers or fire extinguishers in this 3 family building housing 14 children and 3 Women.
My son is no longer a boy now he's a man!!!! Hasani is the hero. I am honored to be his mom. The bravery of that 8 year old child. In the heat of the fire brave and focused I instructed him to make sure to get everyone out NOW! The 2nd floor tenant has young children with a newborn. He not only ran upstairs to alert them but also safely and quickly escorted his 3 younger siblings out the building Hendrix Little 6, Meila-Sky Leon 3, and Mali-Rose Leon 5 to safety before the windows exploded on the porch.
How fast and fierce the fire burned. I'll never forget. The heat. The smoke. My hair burned. Watching our home of the last few years burn to the ground. I have no words for sorrow I felt. Being a single mother of 5 in poverty I have already been under unimaginable pressure maintaining balance for the children stretched thin in every direction. This fire could not have happened at a worse time.
We have lost everything all 3 families. I am an artist, a painter . I've lost 20 years of original work, masterpieces, supplies, textbooks, sculptures and a plethora of expensive art collected over time from other artists. The children have lost all of their clothes, shoes, electronics, toys, and books. Everything in that house if it didn't burn to ash is warped and toxic, due to the chemicals released. Nothing was salvageable.
What a long road ahead of us. No matter how dark it may seem there is always light. This fire has launched us all into new beginning. A clean slate. Despite such an unexpected unplanned setback I remain hopeful. If you know my family and I; we are loving happy caring active members of the Boston community. The children are so loved by their teachers and peers. I ask if there is anything you can give please do. Currently; I am in a hotel waiting for a larger room so the children and I can be together in this process.
Were reaching out to the community asking that you lend your hearts and hands. If you know of any resources please keep in touch.
Much gratitude and thanks that no one was seriously injured or killed. We are picking up the pieces, a day at a time.
