My name is Faith and I want to actualize my full trans form. I feel closest to my trans embodiment on the dance floor at a rave sporting a fluorescent bob shaped wig, wearing a skimpy outfit and stomping around in platform sneakers. I always have to shave my face a second time in the day, double check to see if I have any chest hair and if I do, remove it before going out to a party. If I didn't do this, I wouldn't feel comfortable going to party, would have concerns for my safety and just desire being myself while I dance the night away.
I have wanted to get laser hair removal for my face and chest for 4 years now but kept putting it off due to fear. With the encouragement and support of a few close friends, I finally decided to attend a laser consultation meeting in March. Some medical transitioning services are covered under public health insurance or private insurance but laser is not and is considered a cosmetic.
I'm a non-binary transfeminine mixed race person of English, Irish and Filipino descent. I've been sober for the past 12 years with the support of 12-Step fellowships like Alcoholics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. I have been doing community activism in Toronto for over 10 years primarily advocating and creating spaces for sober people and individuals that use substances, wanting to create mutually supportive culture between harm reduction and sober communities. In 2013, my dear friend Tim and I, started Pieces to Pathways, a peer-based alcohol and drug use support program for people 16 to 29 years old because we simply wanted queer and trans youth that were seeking support with their substance use to have a place to go where their experiences were affirmed, not denied. In the fall of 2018, I started my first of two years in the Master of Social Work program at York University.
Reluctantly, I'm reaching out for help to raise funds primarily for laser hair removal, to new femme clothing and a second phone to use for Tinder lol. I was banned from Tinder for being trans on the "gay womens" side as a non-binary person. My birthday is on April 29th and I'm turning 32, this would all be such a lovely gift for something that would be so meaningful to me. <3
