trans refugee needs surgery

hi everyone! im a disabled trans syrian refugee and i need help getting a surgery that will both ease my gender dysphoria and the physical strain on my spine.

my surgery is currently scheduled for the first week of November with a private surgeon.

my large chest not only gives me insane gender dysphoria, but it also makes living with my disabilities even harder: i have two chronic spinal disorders and my large chest adds a ton of extra pressure on my spine. this reduction comes highly recommended by my family doctor so i can hopefully live with less chronic pain, muscle spasms and disc deterioration, and highly recommended by my HRT doctor to ease my dysphoria. this is something i’ve needed for several years, and it’s finally time for it to happen.

going through a private surgeon means i will be operated on by a surgeon who i know has experience working with trans people, and it means getting it done a lot quicker than if i had to go through quebec’s hellish public health system.

unfortunately, quebec does not cover this type of surgery done through any private clinics as it does not consider them to be necessary gender-affirming surgeries.

the cost of the surgery is 9,200CAD (including tax), and i don’t have anywhere near that amount: i make at most 20k a year and being disabled under capitalism is fucking expensive already. my main source of income has been EI but my payments were stopped in march, so i’m barely able to afford rent while working as a TA/RA on term-long contracts.

i’m asking for:

- the amount of the surgery bill ($9,200, to be paid in full by mid-October);

- 1 month’s rent while i recover and cannot work ($700),

- and some additional money for stuff like meds and food for both me and friends helping me during recovery ($300).

this is a very vulnerable situation to be put in but i really need help from my friends communities + allies and so i ask you all to please share this fundraiser with your friends, peers, rich relatives, etc and to donate if you can.
