Transfer Heather’s embryo out of Alabama
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Christy Acosta and I’m fundraising for my sister Heather and her husband Chris to help get their frozen embryo out of UAB in Alabama and to a receiving clinic in California.
A little background information, my sister is an intensive care nurse and Air Force veteran who served honorably for eight years. My brother-in-law is an active duty Air Force pilot who will be retiring this summer after 22 years of service. They have 19 month old son and three adorable Puggles.
Due to the recent legislation that was passed in Alabama, all IVF procedures have been cancelled at UAB. My sister was scheduled to transfer her second embryo on March 20, 2024 in Birmingham but was informed that the transfer was canceled. Additionally, they are unable to have their embryo transferred out of state and need to find and hire a company to that is willing to accept liability during the transportation process. Heather has consulted a family law attorney and will be filing a petition with the Alabama Supreme Court to force UAB to release her embryo.
My sister and brother-in-law started IVF in December of 2020. Out of her two cycles, two embryos developed and were viable for transfer. My nephew Maximus was born in 2022 and without the wonderful Endocrinology and Infertility team at UAB my nephew would not be here today.
Thank you!
