Transgender adolescents need a break

Hi, my name is Katie. I'm fundraising for transgender adolescents in Far North Queensland. Currently, transgender adolescents are waiting over 12 months to access puberty-pausing medication through the public system. While they wait, puberty is progressing and they're getting more anxious, depressed, and even suicidal. The only way they can put puberty on hold is by paying $1,000 per three months for private treatment.

These medications are reversible and usually only used for a few years at most, while the teen matures mentally to an age where they can decide on hormone therapy. Most parents can't afford the $4,000 per year treatment and struggle to explain to their children why they can't get the care they need.

Every $4,000 we reach will help one transgender adolescent through the toughest time of their life. So many adolescents describe that even after one treatment they feel more at peace. Monies will be distributed to local Far North Queensland families identified in need, through PFLAG+ Cairns (a support group for parents of gender and sexually diverse children). We have one adolescent in urgent need, and many more growing every day.
Every $4,000 will supply a whole year of puberty-pausing medication for an adolescent in need. These medications are currently only available privately in Cairns, as there is no public hospital service.
