Help Transgender People In Haiti
Kay Trans is an initiative started by Yaisah Val (a transgender Haitian woman), for transgender people in Haiti. It falls under ACVIFH, which is an organization for transgender rights in Haiti.
Kay Trans Ayiti houses 10 of Haiti’s transgender youth who have been displaced due to queerphobic abuse and harassment. When there, they are provided with housing, food, and psychosocial support and other necessities that apply. They hold regular sessions to help with their mental health, and provided them legal support when necessary. Unfortunately, none of this is possible without funds - and if the initiative were to be dissolved, it would leave some of our most vulnerable to the mercy of current instabilities and the additional queerphobia. This includes rape, and death. [See video below].
* In addition, this money will go towards formal security, and further help, which would ensure their protection and well being.
You may also donate through Paypal here:
Please donate whatever you can.
NB:The exchange rate TODAY for the U.S and Haiti is:
1 USD = 100 HTG (Haitian Gourdes).
* This exchange rate increases for Haitians, which means that as time passes, the gourde becomes less valuable. Consider this when donating. Be aware as well, that most expenses go according to the American dollar’s worth. It would be wise to remember that the cost of living far exceeds what the gourde is worth. This is why the totality of this fundraiser raised would be ideal. It is their very livelihood at stake.
*Keep in mind that there are also fees involved in getting the money to them through them via Western Union.
