Transgender kid medical bill

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Abby (she/her), and I am the lucky mother to a brave and strong transgender kid. Since coming out in August 2021, PB (he/him) has battled others' lack of understanding and support in all areas of his life - school, friends, and family. During that time, I have been working to help him feel happy, secure, and safe to live as he is.

In March 2022, I took PB to a pediatrician specializing in gender health, and he was diagnosed with gender dysphoria. His doctor recommended puberty suppression medication. Taking the medication would allow PB to live as a boy without worrying about going through female puberty.

However, his father, Tate, did not agree to the medication, and PB could not get it.

In the 2 months prior, Tate had only just begun using PB's preferred pronouns and declined all offers to join at therapy and doctor's appointments. Then, Tate refused to allow PB to get the prescribed medication without consulting any medical professionals. After attempting to reason with Tate, I decided to pursue legal action against him. I hired a lawyer, filed a motion for sole medical decision authority, and attended mediation. The result of the mediation was that Tate would get to choose the type of medication, and I would pay any out-of-pocket costs. This was the compromise I made to ensure Tate's compliance.

PB received the medication, and I received a medical bill. In an act of retaliation, Tate chose the medication that would cost $3400 without notifying me ahead of time. The other option would have cost $325 every six months. When I asked him if he knew the cost ahead of time, he said he did not. Records from the pharmacist he spoke with show he was lying - Tate was told exactly how much it would cost.

I am not sure how I will pay this bill.

To cover the previously mentioned legal fees, a rise in my rent, and student loans coming due Sept. 1, I am already looking for a 2nd job. But that will not cover this bill too.

I've never had to ask for money like this and feel very uncomfortable doing so, but I need help and appreciate anything you can contribute. All donations will go directly to Kaiser and GoFundMe's fees. Thank you, thank you, in advance for your help!

*Note: If you are also lucky enough to know PB, I would appreciate you not mentioning this to him. I want him to focus on being a kid, not what is an adult matter. Thanks!
