Transito Martinez Terminal Cancer Memorial Fund

In 2016, my sweet mother Transito Martinez was diagnosed with stage IV Colon Cancer with metastasis on her lymph nodes. Through surgery, the doctors were able to remove most of the malignant tumor. After her surgery, she started her treatment process. This process included over 25 chemotherapy sessions. All of this occurred over a two year period. Unfortunately, these chemotherapy sessions were ultimately ineffective, as the cancer eventually returned. 

By May 2018,  the doctors informed us that the cancer continued to grow and was aggressively spreading to her other organs. The cancer had started to spread to her lungs, her liver, her lymph nodes and further into her digestive systems. This worsened condition caused further complications requiring an aggressive radiation treatment plan, totaling in over 10 radiation sessions.

After her radiation therapy sessions concluded in mid June 2018, the doctors notified me that they would not continue with treatment anymore. However, my brother, my mother, and I are fighters and refused to just accept this end. We sought out a second opinion from another doctor at the John Theurer Cancer Center in Hackensack, NJ. Here we were presented with an opportunity to try an experimental clinical trial treatment. It was a long shot, but it was also our final hope and we were willing to try anything whatsoever in order to save our mother’s life.

The clinical trials commenced in September and continued for a little over a month until the end of October. On November 1st, the clinical trials were terminated by orders of the doctor. Unfortunately, the trials, did not help with the cancer and instead worsened her health. The trials had impacted her liver and was causing massive damage internally. In the end, we were left without any more options for treatment. As of December, she has been cut off from all forms of medications and only has been given pain management, as a means to give my mother some comfort in her final days.

She is currently relegated to being in her bed for most of the day and night. She has lost all of her appetite and she is completely drained of her energy.  All of her limbs have started to swell up and become inflamed. She can barely move and definitely can not walk on her own anymore. Most recently, bed sores have started to form, and everyday her pains get worse and worse. 

We are trying with all of our hearts and energy to give my mother any kind of comfort in her final days. We have started this campaign as a means to hopefully receive some form of monetary assistance through these difficult and trying times. We are a proud immigrant family who came to this amazing country in search for a better and more fulfilling life. However, we are also a humble family of few economic resources. We are seeking funds for help with many medical and hospital bills that have accumulated over these last almost 3 years of fighting for my mother’s life. Not only that, but also her final expenses need to be covered. We have picked out a plot in a local cemetery and have started to make funeral arrangements, however, we currently can’t cover these immense costs on our own.  Please find it in your hearts to assist in any way possible.
