Transplant For Daniel Onofre

This Go Fund Me account is for my 10 year old son. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 germ cell cancer on July 2, 2020.  This came as a shock to us because his primary doctor just told us a few days before he was diagnosed that it was just puberty and a cough and prescribed him cough medicine. It turned out he had two tumors near his brain and hundreds throughout his chest and lung area. After more test were run I found out he also has advanced bone age, a hernia, and developed asthma from his chemotherapy. So far he has been through 6 cycles and I thank God everyday that he has been able to handle things so well and remain strong through it all but he still has active tumor cells. He was supposed to go through a transplant and receive high dose chemo to finish off the last of the tumor cells but his insurance is trying not to approve the transplant because they want to wait to see if it comes back or goes away even though they already put the Broviac line in his chest. His doctors are doing all they can to try and get it approved but the insurance is making things very difficult.  I recently just had a newborn, I have been laid off since COVID began and  have been making things work as best I can using unemployment and SSI but I have exhausted my resources. I don't have much left. I have been borrowing a car to maintain transportation to and from hospital appointments, and doing all I can to take care of 5 kids and a newborn. The transplant was scheduled to begin on 12/17/20 but now I have to be ready for whatever comes in the next few weeks because I don't know when something else will change. I will be so grateful to whoever can give whatever they can to help us through this situation. Even the smallest amount would be a great help towards our goal. This fund is a contingency plan for if we have to pay out of pocket for the procedure which would cost between $20,000 and $30,000. I want my son to make a full recovery and I want to do all I can to make that happen. God bless.
