Transportation for Africa Music School
Donation protected
Hi it’s Isabella and Rhionna!
We’re raising money on behalf of Africa Music School to purchase their first vehicle (a second-hand van) to make their programme more accessible to young people in Uganda.
Founded in 2017, The Africa Music School (AMS) is based in Kampala and teaches students of all levels from 2 - 20 years old. Currently, there are over 400 young people accessing free music education provided by the AMS, across three major communities in Uganda. Throughout the planning process, Francis Kalema, the Founder and Executive Director of the AMS has deeply encouraged our mission and has been a constant support in creating our music programme. With your help, we aim to contribute to the AMS motto, ‘‘through music we make change’.
Due to narrow roads, indisciplined drivers, poor urban planning, flooded roads, limited car parking and concentration of most económica nomic and social activities in the city. It can take up to 3 hours just to get out of the city of Kampala. Currently taxis and uber prices are very high in Uganda in comparison to owning and driving your own vehicle and petrol costs. Hence why it’s vital the school can have their own transport as soon as possible. Please consider donating to improve the lives of everyone at Africa Music School.
In summary a school bus is desperately required for:
1. Long Commutes: Students often walk around 10 kilometers (6 miles) to simply attend school. In addition when it rains, flooded roads add challenges, making it difficult to reach classes in time or at all. This can often discourage them for coming due to the extreme heat and road conditions they face.
2. Travel Challenges: The AMS expansion to Busunju and Salama means travel between centers can take up to 4 hours one way without reliable public transport, limiting teaching time.
3. Benefits of a School Bus: A bus will help teachers and students travel efficiently, reducing fatigue and enhancing their time and focus for learning. In addition to its primary role, the bus will be essential for transporting students to various concert and recital venues, as well as for moving instruments securely.
4. Long-Term Infrastructure: With purchased land in Busunju, AMS plans to build more facilities, making reliable transport essential for students unable to walk long distances.
5. Safety and Access for Visitors: A bus would safely transport visiting teachers and guests between the airport and teaching centers.
6. Increased Learning Time: With no public transport available, a bus would maximize students’ learning time by ensuring consistent access to school.
