Trying to continue in agriculture!!

My name is Yadira Mendiola and the name of my farm is Queen of Vegetables Organic Farm. The reason why I am asking for help is because I have an agricultural business that I started in November 2020 and I want to succeed in this challenging business. I started with nothing not even a shovel or wheelbarrow. I have struggled and have managed to build my business but now the with the winter storms in California I am left with lots of damage and crops that are not growing from over saturated soil. I wanted to ask for help during the first round of storms but did not out of shame. I resorted to borrowing money from friends and family but now I am again in need of help because the rains are not stopping. I need a little more capital to continue. I am the mother of 3 boys 20, 15, and 14. I need money for more plants, machinery, and other farm necessities. I sincerely appreciate any help you can give. My fields are in Royal Oaks and Salinas, you are welcome to see them to verify my request.

I have photos and videos to show but I don’t know how to upload them, my story! I am originally from Acapulco Mexico and immigrated to this country in 2000. Like many of my compatriots I have worked in this country to not be a burden on the state and help my family in Mexico. I have grown as a person. I have had jobs in nurseries, markets, grape fields, restaurants, and seed companies. At the seed company is where my passion for agriculture began. It is also where I gained my experience to succeed.

I took course in the ALBA program and on the date of my graduation they offered me half an acre of land at low cost along with tools. In my second year I had 2.7 acres of crops. ALBA evaluates you as you go and on the third year I had 8 acres of crops. This was a great accomplishment for me.

I started out selling to Coke Farm in San Juan Bautista. Coke Farm is a distributor that helps by purchasing from many of the local growers. They have some assistance programs that unfortunately are not available or won’t be available soon. That’s why I am reaching out to you and requesting your help. I want to continue growing and harvesting organic and I want to contribute to the development of our communities. I want to ensure that families have fresh vegetables on their table. Thank you.

Mi nombre es Yadira Mendiola y el nombre de mi finca es Granja Orgánica Reina de las Verduras. La razón por la que pido ayuda es porque tengo un negocio agrícola que comencé en noviembre de 2020 y quiero tener éxito en este desafiante negocio. Empecé sin nada, ni siquiera una pala o una carretilla. He luchado y he logrado construir mi negocio, pero ahora, con las tormentas de invierno en California, me quedan muchos daños y cultivos que no crecen en un suelo saturado. Como muchos de mis compatriotas he trabajado en este país para no ser una carga para el estado y ayudar a mi familia en México. He crecido como persona. He tenido trabajos en viveros, mercados, campos de uva, restaurantes y empresas de semillas. En la empresa de semillas es donde comenzó mi pasión por la agricultura. También es donde obtuve mi experiencia para tener éxito.

Tomé curso en el programa ALBA y en la fecha de mi graduación me ofrecieron media hectárea de tierra a bajo costo junto con herramientas. En mi segundo año tuve 2.7 acres de cultivos. ALBA te evalúa sobre la marcha y al tercer año tenía 8 hectáreas de cultivo. Este fue un gran logro para mí.

Empecé vendiendo a Coke Farm en San Juan Bautista. Coke Farm es un distribuidor que ayuda comprando a muchos de los productores locales. Tienen algunos programas de asistencia que lamentablemente no están disponibles o no lo estarán pronto. Es por eso que me comunico con usted y solicito su ayuda. Quiero seguir cultivando y cosechando orgánico y quiero contribuir al desarrollo de nuestras comunidades. Quiero asegurarme de que las familias tengan verduras frescas en su mesa. Gracias.
