Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke Recovery Journey
Donation protected
Following a Friday night Football Victory on October 13th, our Coach arrived home with Kaden following an eventful ride. It was a sudden and terrifying turn of events that none of us could have anticipated. Aaron was taken to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, and admitted to the Neuro ICU from October 14 to November 9th after sustaining an intracranial hemorrhage. He was found to have a large right thalamic bleed with extension into the lateral, third, and fourth ventricles. He underwent placement of an EVD/ICP monitor on the surface of his brain. He has vasogenic edema surrounding the hemorrhage which does extend into his midbrain. Due to dysphagia a PEG tube was placed for feeding. He has dense left-sided weakness and is max assist for bed mobility, bathing, toileting, feeding, and dressing.
Aaron has been diagnosed with Hydrocephalus which poses a unique risk to both his cognitive and physical recovery.
On November 9th Aaron was admitted to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. MRH is a national destination for traumatic brain injury and comprehensive stroke rehabilitation. Aaron has not been alone during this challenging journey. He has received prayers daily, phone calls, messages, visitors, and an outpour of love from all over. Currently, Aaron is receiving 24-hour care with my Mom by his side every step of the way. Together, they face the challenges that lie ahead. His anticipated discharge date is March 4th, 2024.
The funds gathered will help with the financial burden on our family as we adjust to my mother's presence in Nebraska while Aaron receives treatment along with "home" for Kaden here in Missouri; Secondly, with modifications needed to accommodate Aaron's return home, treatment/devices denied by insurance, and mounting medical costs of Aaron's hospitalization and subsequent recovery period.
We greatly appreciate the outpour of love, support and check-ins we have already received since Aaron's stroke in October. It has been immense. We are looking forward to Aarons return home.
