Traumatic Brain Injury Medical and Legal Fees

Update:
Lynn just returned from multiple doctor appointments in Chicago. She's hopeful, as she's learned of three new therapies/treatments that are both necessary and quite promising for her continued recovery.
Hi, my name is Tyler and I'm creating this on behalf of my mother, Lynn. She has far too much on her plate right now and is deep underwater in several ways, and I help her out where I can.
Her request is two-fold:
-First and foremost, she needs medical funds for the multiple specialized medical treatments for which she’s been referred that are necessary to help her heal enough to return to work.
-Second, she needs funds to hire an appellate attorney to appeal the fraudulent handling of her workman’s comp case.
She was working at a grocery store, doing a carryout for an older customer, when the hatch from that SUV smashed down on top of her head. She sustained a traumatic brain injury and has been unable to work since that day in 2019. She’s had an extensive array of cognitive, balance, speech, visual, sensory, etc. issues, extreme fatigue as well as severe photophobia (light sensitivity) and sensitivity to sound. Her processing speed tested 15% of normal. Walking is very difficult as she constantly dips to the right side. She cannot stand for more than a few minutes at a time without great fatigue. Her central/peripheral vision is distorted to where her nervous system is always in “fight/flight” mode, overreacting to visual stimuli. The ongoing accumulation of environmental, visual, physical and cognitive factors exponentially decreases her capacity to function. Interacting with life and accomplishing even basic activities of daily living continues to be a challenge on a multitude of levels.
Her claim was accepted by Workman’s Comp, but she quickly learned their intent was to NOT help her. W/C prevented care and within three months paid their own doctor to say nothing was wrong and closed her case. Following such, she lost her insurance and went 15 months with zero income, all while paying out of pocket for multiple therapies. Ultimately, were it not for Covid, she also would have lost her house. She eats because she gets food stamps.
Simultaneously, she’s been embroiled in an ongoing legal battle with W/C to cover her medical expenses and lost wages. W/C employed extremely corrupt doctors who’ve falsified her medical records, claiming she was never even injured but instead has a “pre-existing personality disorder”. Their accusations are blatantly false and they have no proof for their claims, yet they are so experienced in (and rewarded for) their dishonesty that they’re able to fool judges who know nothing about brain injuries.
She continues to fight because she believes, “If no one ever speaks up, nothing ever changes.”
She was eventually diagnosed with Post Trauma Vision Syndrome and Visual Midline Shift Syndrome. While there have been many incremental improvements for which she is very grateful, she continues to have a plethora of ongoing and often debilitating symptoms. Her search has recently led her to the Mind Eye Institute in Chicago, where people with similar symptoms travel from around the world for treatment. She’s also been referred for several comprehensive and specialized therapies. Additionally, she must travel to Chicago twice yearly
to the Mind Eye Institute.
She now gets SSDI disability, but she requires treatments by specialists who either don’t take insurance, or insurance does not cover those treatments. Her out of pocket medical costs in 2022 were greater than her entire disability check for the year. She works hard to make progress but without these recommended medical treatments, it continues to be at a snail’s pace. More than anything, she wants to go back to work and to be able to function on her own but the capability for continued recovery is fading and she needs your help.
After nearly 5 years of watching her go through every catastrophic blow in this legal process, all while struggling just to even function, it amazes me how she manages to keep fighting. It breaks my heart to witness all of this happen. Many injustices have been dealt.
Any donation helps, as there is nowhere else this money will come from. A share on social media would be incredibly appreciated as well. Thank you very much even just for reading all of this! Bless you all.
