Travers Family Home Fire Fund
Donation protected
In the middle of the night on May 8, 2020, the home I grew up in was consumed by fire at a total loss. I was not living in the home at the time, but my younger sister, Janemarie Travers, and her family were. Everything Jane and Irvin owned was lost, as well as all the memories my family had built up over the years. They escaped the fire in the dead of night, so only had the pajamas they wore to bed that night. They couldn’t even drive the family van because the keys were consumed with the house. Unfortunately, there is no insurance to help recover from the losses. To add to the devastation, Irvin had just made it home from the hospital the night before after more than a month’s stay due to his ongoing battle with cancer. I hope this fundraiser will help alleviate some of the financial burden my sister was already facing with their current situation. I hope to help them in the immediate find somewhere to stay and replace their clothes and general living requirements to ease their stress. Then maybe as time goes by they can afford to rebuild and replace what was lost. The house cannot be salvaged and will need to be completely rebuilt.
Janemarie is one of the most generous, loving and sincere people I know. Even though she’s never had more than a pot to pee in, she’s the first one to invite someone over for a hot meal when they are hungry, offer them a place to stay whether it be on the couch or a sleeping bag on the floor, or lend a helping hand anytime she can. She would literally do anything for anyone, and anybody who knows her knows that. She is currently supporting her partner, her four boys, and an “adopted daughter” on her salary. I am asking you to come together and help this family with any amount of donation.
Victims of fires face tremendous emotional stress and financial costs, and I hope this fund will help alleviate some of the challenges Jane and Irvin are going to face as they try to move on, continue to deal with Irvin’s disease, and rebuild their lives. In this uncertain time, I know many people are facing hardships and I am extremely grateful for any donation.
Thank you for supporting my sister and our family.
With love,
Maureen “Moe” Travers
