My name is Travis Barcomb 2 years ago on June 24th 2021 I was in a head on collision that almost took my life, I was air lifted to Wake med NC where I spent 10 days in a medically induced coma and 36 days in the hospital. In my body I broke my right foot (right foot was a compound fracture with many bones broken in it) and I also broke my left foot. I broke my tibia and fibulas on my right & left leg (both were multi compound fractures *bones broke through the skin*) I broke my left knee and both femurs (those were compound fractures as well), I broke both hips and my pelvis in multiple places. I broke all of my ribs but 2, I punctured my left lung and ripped the artery of my intestines which they then ended up needing to remove about 8 feet of the intestine and then take my gallbladder out as it was leaking internally. I spent the next 6 months in a hospital bed at home with my family and a awesome wife taking care of me. In January 2022 I was cleared by the doctor to try and start walking again, 2 weeks later after trying teach myself how to walk again my right leg tib and fib plates broke (the plates held my leg together so I could stand on it) and that led needing to have another surgery where they put in a nail (or called a rod) in place. I spent the next 12 months having multiple surgery’s and working hard to heal. Sadly my right leg just would not heal after the last surgery which led to having a open wound that wouldn’t not close for 4 months. The lower part of my leg was staying so swollen it was bigger than my thigh which was also making the wound grow longer/deeper instead of healing. This past May I was finally told they were going to have to amputate my right leg due to my body not healing the lower half of my right leg. The amputation happened on May 24th 2023, for the past 2 years I have done everything I could do to not have to ask for help and tried to figure things out on our own. Between myself and family were just barley getting by but now I’m 7 weeks post op from the leg amputation and they decided to take my health insurance. Which leaves us having to pay for appts out of pocket until we can figure out a plan we can afford until I can go back to work after I get my prosthetic and relearn how to walk/relearn how to do regular day to day activities. I’m having to travel an hour and half each direction up to 3 - 6 times a month for appointments. So i am now asking for any help to pay for appts, fuel and trying to keep our household afloat while going through this extreme rough patch. I have 4 wonderful kids and loving wife who have supported me and has seen me at my best and my worst. All and any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance to everyone that helps or has already helped.
