Travis Johnson - a true modern-day Saint Valentine

Travis Johnson, a true modern-day Saint Valentine, left this earth just a day shy of his 44th birthday. What can be said about such a titan of the faith that would begin to do justice to the heart of this man? Travis was a bright light in this world, a light that will continue to blaze through the many lives that he touched. While serving on the mission field in Bundibugyo, Uganda with his wife Amy and three small children, Travis was diagnosed with late-stage cancer in his colon. In spite of his prognosis of two months, Travis lived 7 full years.

Travis fought with all of his heart, soul, mind and strength to the very end.  In the midst of pain and fear, Travis prayed for revival.  His heart was pure and selfless.

He is survived by his amazing and faithful wife, Amy and his three incredible children.  Amy is a rock of a person with a servant’s heart.  Together with their children, they gave their life to the mission field for as long as they could until cancer forced them back to the states.  Those close to Travis and Amy know how eager they were to return the mission field.  This is who they are.

If you thought you were going to minister to them in their fight with cancer, you would quickly learn that you would receive much more than you gave.  The Johnson’s are kingdom people.   Their hands are always open in prayer to receive whatever the Lord had for them.  Their eyes are always lifted up to the King of Heaven whom they longed to serve.  And their hearts are always open to those in need of a loving touch.

Many of the loving folks that served and were touched by the Johnson family in Uganda have sent in testimonies recording their love. Here's one that beautifully captures the heart of this man: Isaiah was an orphan who had an opportunity to work alongside Travis by translating for him. When Isaiah decided to change his career direction and apply to medicine, Travis agreed to sponsor his education. This is what Isaiah had to say:

“One of the last verses Travis shared with me was that God wants me to call him Abba, Father. He told me that I should stop calling myself an orphan, because I have a Father who is caring for me and watching over me, who is meeting all my needs. Lilli, Patton, and Aidan, you are not orphans either. God is your good Father. God is the one who will meet all your needs.”

Travis preached to this fatherless boy all those years ago, and now he is preaching back to Travis’s children. Wow!

Now is our time to love on this family.  Will you join us by giving any amount you feel led to give? 100% of the money collected will go to Travis’ wife Amy and their 3 children.

God Bless You!
