Travis’s stem cell transplant journey

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Dawn and I am the wife to Travis and I am starting this gofundme to help my husband, myself and son during this life changing journey.

Travis, my husband, was originally diagnosed with Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) around 2015. This was just a very generalized find as there are 7 different types of mpn’s and at that time they just had home taking some meds to help with the high white cell count. Then in late 2019, during a DOT physical, they found that his spleen was enlarged. With more in-depth testing and bone marrow biopsies and the delays with Covid, the oncologist officially diagnosed it as Myelofibrosis with jak2 mutation in 2021. This is a rare type of chronic bone marrow cancer that disrupts your body's normal production of blood cells. Myelofibrosis causes abnormal stem cells produce mature cells that grow quickly and take over the bone marrow, causing both fibrosis (scar tissue formation) and chronic inflammation. As a result, it becomes more difficult for the bone marrow to create normal blood cells and blood cell production may move to the spleen (causing enlargement) or to other areas of the body. There is no known cure at this time. There are medications that help control the symptoms but this only helps for so long and the only thing that is left help is allogenic bone marrow stem cell transplant. This where we are at currently and Travis’s health is deteriorating very rapidly at the point. We are very fortunate and thru the help of Be The Match, there has be a donor/match found for Travis. So on November 9th, he will be going into the hospital and will stay in there for about 25 or so days. Once he is discharged, we will have to stay in housing near the hospital in Denver (St Luke’s presbyterian) for about 75 days. As we live out side of the 30 mile range (about 80 miles) they require during post transplant.

I am asking for any donations to help us financially as he will be out of work for one year and I will be unable to work during the post transplant when we are in Denver as I will need to be his caregiver while he is still very weak and unable to day to day tasks. This money will be going to things like housing while in Denver (our insurance will only cover portion of it), food, gas, medical bills and Christmas presents for our son.

Thank you for reading our story and I graciously appreciate any help that you are able to give.
