Treatment for traumatic brain Injury
Donation protected
Before I start, I want to thank you for reading my story. It was difficult to make this public.
Here is my story:
On Jan 3, 2021, I suffered a traumatic brain injury while snowboarding. A few days before that, my Mom had a brain aneurysm on Christmas Eve. This was by far the most depressing and challenging time of my life, for my family and my startup. I felt like everything was being taken from me. My family has been severely impacted.
For 8 weeks after my head injury, I went through a horrific period of insomnia and poor mental health. It started with 4 days of no sleep, then a crash on the 5th day out of extreme exhaustion, a few hours of sleep for 2 more days, then the cycle repeated over and over. During this time, I experienced paranoia, ptsd, major depression, panic attacks and suicidal thoughts. It was traumatic. I was in and out of the hospital and a few friends' homes when I needed support.
In Jan 2022, I decided it was best to leave my startup which was one of the most difficult decisions in my life. Since then, I have pursued various clinical modalities, therapies, and medicines that my doctors recommended. Unfortunately, all of this has put me in a challenging position financially and in poor mental health as they have only reduced symptoms and don’t alleviate the fundamental cause of this suffering.
The good news
For the last 2.5 years, I have had an incredible team of doctors, psychologists and other rehabilitative experts by my side. Without them, i would not be here. Over the years, we have extensively researched various treatment options and selected ones we think will be best to help me recover.
How can you help?
I am looking for financial support from friends, family and anyone that can help me get back to the person I am and the person I want to be as I continue to grow. Anything helps!
How the funds will be used:
- Cover all costs of a behavioral intensive outpatient clinic (treats conditions like ocd, anxiety, ptsd, panic)
- Participate in a sleep clinic and relearn how to sleep
- Post-concussion treatment
- Gadolinium detox (heavy metal)
- Additional treatments recommended by my PC and medical team
- Help with living expenses
Summary: I am looking at this period as a boot camp to make significant progress with my health so I can continue to heal and build myself up. I can't wait to get back to work. I miss building and creating. It fills me with so much purpose and joy.
But most importantly, I want to be happy and find healing. The conditions I suffer from categorically after my head injury are 1) sleep and 2) emotion/mood (social/performance anxiety, depression, panic disorder, and PTSD). I have improved significantly with panic disorder and anxiety after my 4 month clinic experience.
Head traumas and concussions can intensify pre-existing conditions, making then extremely difficult to manage. Depression, social anxiety and ADHD have always been a battle for me, but i learned how to manage and optimize my life with them, mostly drug free.
After the TBI, they have become incredibly difficult to manage. If you want to know more specifics, I am happy to have a conversation to dive deeper into these conditions if it helps.
Because I know these conditions all too well, I have developed deep love and empathy for those that deal with them. Some are good at hiding it (like me), while others are not. The good news is there is hope, healing and people that care.
Thank you for reading my story and making a contribution if you're able. I wish you peace, love and healing. We could all use some.

For those of you looking for help and dealing with the burden of shame and fear for asking for help, It is OK to ask for help. Everyone deserves to be helped when going through crisis. Empathy saves lives and seeing people be vulnerable is inspiring as it has far reaching positive effects. On the other hand, secrets kill people.
I hope that helps someone out there.
Sincerely,
Benjamin
