For my Husband: Treatments in Boston and Expenses
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Crystal Stilwell. Many of you know me through our community of Bath, Maine.
I met my husband, Ben Townsend at our local hardware store Roger’s, 7 years ago. He used to pick me up over his shoulder (no small feat for those that know me), to barely able to squeeze my hand now. He has a fortitude like nothing I have ever seen, and has found daily reasons to keep going, and rises above many of his limitations to do a single load of laundry.
He remains on a long journey of struggle to find effective treatments for his neurological condition, spine degeneration, and what his doctors are finding may be Long Covid or rare Lyme Disease. This all finds him with daily agonizing pain and/or numbness in his extremities, to instability in his legs, where he requires canes to walk or sometimes his legs just give out. The fatigue his body endures is more than I have ever witnessed. There are small windows each day where he is able to visit with Isak and me. He is in bed with our beloved cat, Ella better parts of the day to rest and gather energy.
We have been reaching in the dark for the better part of 2 years to find answers for Ben. He has received infusion treatments that help a little.
We do begin a series of trips to Boston beginning in December. I’m asking friends and family once again to rally for one of the best humans I know.
If we can all help cover treatments, travel, hotels, and expenses while away it would lift a heavy load.
It’s not an easy time of year for so many. We understand we are not the only ones struggling. This is what I know how to do. Reach out. Let our community know we need you, right now. Ben is a very private soul. For those that know him, love him. He is brilliant, compassionate, and deserves relief from his climb.
We are hoping Boston is a beacon of hope, and we will get more comprehensive care for Ben.
Thank you,
Crystal
