Tree beekeeping training center

Have you heard about tree-beekeeping before? If not then think about the most natural way of keeping the bees and try to imagine that this occurs 5 meters above the ground. This is tree-beekeeping!

It is known as bartnictvo in Slavic countries and Zeidlerei in Germany. In short, the tradition is to prepare tree-cavities in living trees at heights of 5-8 meters, or in trunks of trees and attracting the bees to fly in.
The bees should be able to buzz about as they want, swarming is welcome and human intervention kept to the minimum.

In many Western European countries and in the US tree-beekeeping is becoming more and more popular, however, in eastern European countries this is still a tradition that is passed through the family... While tree-beekeeping is introduced into Western Europe, tree-beekeepers in the east are often unable to pass on their knowledge to the next generation, mainly because young generation have left the poorer rural areas for job research. Now only a few old folks still keep the bees in log-hives on trees and platforms scattered across marshlands and forests in Belarus and Northern Ukraine. We can observe how these valuable remnants of tree beekeeping are passing away without the transfer of knowledge.
This project aims to renovate an isolated farm by Fratrum Mellicidarum (Treebeekeeping Brotherhood) in the middle of Nalibocka Forest in Belarus - the biggest forest complex in this country. The house will be prepared to train young people from Belarus and across Europe in tree-beekeeping. The idea is to create a place where tree beekeeping experts can spread and share their unique knowledge and act as tutors for young applicants locally among Belarus and across Europe. With this project we aim to transfer the skills and knowledge from one generation to the next. Tree-beekeepers in Belarus try to preserve the most natural way of beekeeping - and we can help them to do that! But we also the aim to show that natural-beekeeping is a way of living - a passionate opportunity to discover a lost feeling in this modern world.

Here is the place!

And here is the farm - lot of things need to be done but together we can do it, and keep this beautiful and valuable tradition alive! Further with your help we hope to forward beekeeping techniques which follow the innate prefernce of the bee, high up in trees and so make our world and there`s a little better. The money should also serve to establish a tree farm containing 100 log hives.
