Tree of Everlasting Life Replacement
Tax deductible
On March 25, 2023, the tree of everlasting life, the centerpiece of the Zoar Garden was snapped in half by heavy windstorms. Planted in 1929, the tree is the symbolic center of the Zoar Garden representing Jesus Christ and the eternity of heaven.
Fundraising efforts are underway to remove the old tree and root system and plant and maintain a new tree. Depending on the size of the new tree, other areas of the garden may be affected by the removal and installation process. Ongoing maintenance of the tree and the Zoar Garden costs the Zoar Community Association thousands of dollars each year in mulch, fertilizers, plants, and watering.
Many milestones, weddings, family photos, events, and moments of quiet reflection have taken place under the tree of everlasting life. The Zoar Community Association wishes to replant the tree to not only honor the history and legacy of the Separatists, but all of our visitors who have chosen the Zoar Garden as their garden of happiness as well.
Zoar is a designated National Historic Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Dozens of village structures have been painstakingly preserved through the collaborative efforts of the Zoar Community Association and the Ohio History Connection. Historic Zoar Village was founded by German Separatists in 1817 and thrived as a communal settlement for more than 80 years.
