Trees for Canada Road
This is a project delivered by Arundel Tree Wardens who are volunteers working for Arundel Town Council.
The Tree Wardens are Bob Tanner, Fiona Keating and Trevor Andrews.
In 1987 Canada Road had a row of about 5 or 6 trees on the grass verges. They all blew over in the storms of that year. All these years on, we are hoping we can replace them.
This would not only replace trees lost from this site in the hurricane, but would give our community something to look forward to and leave a legacy for future generations, just as previous generations have done with the trees they preserved or planted for us.
We hope to do this because street trees look good, they give us oxygen, shade, clean air, help reduce flooding and support wildlife. They also support our own mental health and wellbeing.
The disastrous effects of climate change mean that never have we been more in need of trees!
Our plan is to seek local residents’ views through March 2022, finalising the application to the well-established West Sussex County Council (WSCC) Donate-a-Tree scheme by July 2022, ready for the tree planting season that runs from November 2022 to March 2023.
If residents are supportive of the project we will try to raise enough money to buy 5 and plant 5 trees. We have set a target of £1100 to cover the trees (£1000.00) and £100 of costs (credit card and bank costs).
We aim to fund raise locally using this site. Fund raising will be open from March 2022 to at least October 2022. Any funds raised and not used on Trees in Canada Road, will be donated to the Arundel Town Council Tree fund.
