Trek for Thomas - Walking 125 miles in October 2024
Donation protected
Hi, we are Bethany and Tamsin and we are walking 125 miles each this October to raise money to help buy a Ceiling Track Hoist for Bethany's little boy Thomas.
Thomas was born in 2020 with a rare genetic disorder called ATR-X Syndrome. There is no known cure for this disorder. The condition presents itself in many ways; Thomas is now 4 years old yet he cannot sit up on his own, stand or walk. He cannot talk, is fed through a tube into his tummy and requires a ventilator to help him breathe safely at night. He has global developmental delay with hearing and visual impairment. Despite all of this Thomas is a very happy little boy who smiles all the time.
As a result of his condition it is unlikely that Thomas will ever walk and will require a wheelchair to get around. Bethany's family need to get a hoist for him so that he can be moved safely from his chair to his bed and bathroom for washing.
Bethany's family are currently adapting the ground floor of their house to make it more friendly for Thomas. As part of this adaptation they have been able to secure a grant from the local council to go towards the direct costs associated with Thomas. However the grant wont even cover half of these costs so they are looking to raise additional funds for specific items, one being the Ceiling Track Hoist.
