Trenton Trolley #288 - 1st Fundraising campaign

Tax deductible
In October of 2018,  a rare piece of New Jersey's transportation  history was "rediscovered" and saved from the wrecking ball.  With your financial help, this unique artifact will be restored and preserved for future generations to come!

Built in 1914, Trenton Transit #288 is the LAST known surviving streetcar (or "trolley") from the once extensive transit system which served New Jersey's capital city of Trenton, NJ, and the surrounding communities.

Today Liberty Historic Railway, Inc., a NJ-based, not-for-profit  educational organization dedicated to preserving New Jersey's unique and varied transportation history, is seeking the public's financial support to help restore #288 back to its original condition when the trolley was "in service" in the early 1930's.

This first fundraising campaign (**see note below) seeks funding for a specific, unique endeavor.  While #288 has survived for over 100 years, the trolley's original blueprints have long been lost to history.  In order to guide the #288 team through the restoration process, LHRy needs to first recreate these long lost documents.

Working in conjunction with the Seashore Trolley Museum, the nation's oldest and largest trolley museum, the #288 team has recently commissioned the production of a new set of construction drawings for the trolley.  Funds raised through this campaign are intended to offset the cost of producing the documents and bill of materials needed to restore the missing ends of the #288.

Using a combination of vintage construction documents preserved in Seashore's extensive library, actual measurements taken directly from #288, measurements derived from other preserved trolleys of similar vintage, the restoration team will be able to create the detailed drawings required to restore the body of the #288.

Any proceeds received above our requested goal with be used towards the 2nd fundraising campaign which will fund the reconstruction of the first of the trolley's  2 "missing" ends.  (See picture above)

Please help us preserve and restore this unique piece of New Jersey's history.   No donation is too big, nor too small.   With your tax-deductible donation, future generations will be able to learn about and experience this fascinating form of transportation from days gone by.

** Note:  Please note that GoFundMe deceptively adds a %15 gratuity to a donation using this platform if a donor does not select an alternative amount.  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU SET THE TIP FEATURE TO ZERO before submitting your donation.   In the event you are charged a "tip" by GoFundMe anyway, LHRy will happily offer you a FULL REFUND of your tip.  Thank you.
