Help Save Our Home and Trey’s Critical Medical Care

Hello, my name is Joy. In 2023, I launched this GoFundMe to support my son Trey’s critical medical needs, and thanks to your kindness and generosity, we were able to stay afloat. I am deeply grateful for the help we’ve received, but today we are facing an urgent crisis that leaves us again in desperate need of support.
Trey was born with Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that profoundly impacts every aspect of his life and results in a lifetime of physical, mental and behavioral challenges. For years, he could walk, stand, and breathe independently. But in 2018, when his sixth and final spinal fusion surgery went tragically wrong and he nearly died, everything changed. Now, Trey relies on a ventilator to breathe and can no longer walk or stand. He lives at home with me and requires 24-hour skilled nursing care and daily support for the most basic tasks. He can only sit up with assistance, relies on a motorized lift for movement, and requires constant medical monitoring and care. The financial demands of his care are astronomical, and under current conditions, they are unmanageable.
Trey is the kindest, most gentle soul, filling my life with purpose and giving me strength even on our darkest days. He deserves the care he needs, and I’m doing everything I can to provide it—but I cannot do this alone any longer.
I am a widow in a motorized wheelchair, facing my own health limitations and nursing care needs, which are beyond what my healthcare plan covers. These additional expenses are entirely my burden, alongside Trey’s care. I work part-time, roughly 20 hours a week, but my limited mobility and the expense of specialized transport to and from work make it impossible to work enough to keep up with our growing financial strain. I have exhausted my savings, my IRA, and all other financial resources to keep us afloat, especially during the pandemic. Now, we have nothing left, and the debts keep building.
Since Trey turned 21 this year, he lost 800 hours of covered nursing care due to his age, adding even more strain to our finances. In addition, we’ve accumulated significant debt to obtain the equipment Trey depends on daily, including a Hoyer lift, motorized bed, suction machine, and nebulizer. We also face substantial out-of-pocket costs for the specialized transport required to travel to his specialists, a necessity for his care.
We are now at risk of losing everything—our home, Trey’s critical nursing care, and the stability that allows him to live with dignity. I am reaching out with humility and an urgent plea for help in this critical moment. Your support can provide the skilled nursing, essential equipment, and stability Trey needs to continue his journey at home.
Please, if you can, consider donating to help Trey and I continue to face each day with hope and strength. Every donation and every share of this page helps.
God bless,
Joy and Trey
