Tri-Cities Scotch Collie Pups’ Critical Care Fund
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Tera and I have been helping with a rescue of two litters of Old-Time Scotch Collie puppies in Washington state. We need money for critical vet care expenses. Quin-Anne Hinrichs of Hidden Orchard Farm in Graham, Washington, has done all of the actual groundwork there, and this situation has affected both her homestead and her finances. Quin is a teacher and small farmer, and since school is out for summer, she volunteered to help these puppies … but the project has gone beyond a normal rescue-rehome situation. She purchased the puppies to get them out of the home, a couple of the puppies needed immediate medical attention for abcessed bite wounds, and two of the puppies recently broke with parvo. The vet bills are mounting. I hope we can help Quin and the puppies with this Go Fund Me.
Here is the story:
Two months ago, we were alerted to a situation in Tri-Cities, Washington. An owner in poor health needed help homing two consecutive unplanned litters of OTSC puppies and their intact sire. Quin organized homes for the older pups, a foster home for the sire, and a spay for the dam. Quin acquired the five puppies from the younger litter last week. They went directly to the vet for medical care, parasite control, and vaccinations. Two had infected terrier-attack wounds that had abscessed and needed immediate attention and two had infected flea bite allergy sores that also needed care. The worst bite wound may need further (expensive) treatment.
A few days ago, one of the pups, Demi, started refusing food. She went to the vet that day, and biosecurity and supportive measures were put in place, just in case. Demi seemed fine two days later, but over the next few days, the others followed the same pattern: going off their food, needing a little encouragement to eat, and then bouncing back. The last two pups did not bounce back and broke with full-on Parvo. Even with veterinary support, the smaller one passed away on Monday. The other puppy is very sick and is on meds and subcutaneous fluids. We hope he pulls through. The other pups are in a different area of the farm and seem playful, eating, and doing regular puppy things. Biosecurity measures are in place, and the other pups are not in contact with the sick one, but since parvo is contagious before symptoms show, our fingers are crossed. The vet bills may continue to grow.
Parvo is highly-contagious and very difficult to eradicate. Quin has her own collies and was planning for a litter next year, but now her home, yard, and kennel are contaminated. All of the area will need to be sanitized repeatedly and will likely be quarantined for years after this for the area to be safe again. This is a huge burden for Quin, and the measures needed to make her home, kennel, and yard safe for puppies down the road will be time-consuming and costly.
Please help by donating anything you can to offset the mounting costs of vet care, food, and essentials for these puppies. We are happy to answer questions and will post updates as we can. Once they are well and safe, all puppies will be available for adoption.
