"Bloom" A Tribute Mural to the Avett Brothers
Donation protected
"Bloom" A Tribute Mural to the Avett Brothers.
Cicada Studios is raising money for the following mural to be installed at 25 Union St. North in Downtown Concord, NC. The mural will be installed spring 2020 through a vinyl adhesion process by TPM, a company based out of Greenville, SC. To see how this technique is applied one can reference "Off Main Street," a mural installed at the Concord bi-centennial parking lot in 2013. For the proposed amount of coverage on the wall (352" x 500"), the cost is $17,056. We have several generous sponsors for the mural; however, this project still needs a significant amount of funding.

The layers of color ebbing around the musicians symbolize order forming from the seemingly endless opportunities a musician has when they confront the process of creating music. The final outcome is still chaotic in some sense, but the musician has grasped a concept and is making it digestible to the listener for a moment in time. This James Baldwin quote from "Sonny's Blues" had a large influence on the conceptual development of the mural:
"But the man who creates the music is hearing something else, is dealing with the roar rising from the void and imposing order on it as it hits the air. What is evoked in him, then, is of another order, more terrible because it has no words, and triumphant, too, for that same reason. And his triumph, when he triumphs, is ours."

The act of creating is an act of bravery. It means confronting every possibility and daring to choose a path.
"Decide what to be and go be it..."
Sharing that path with others shows great generosity. This is why the Avett fan base is so dedicated. The Avetts have chosen to write music in an organic fashion, speaking to their inner muse instead of plotting how they want their sound perceived. This honesty is reflected in their music and has led to fans feeling a deep connection with their work. For those from Concord this connection is even deeper. Concordians hear chaos snap into order, but there is another level of depth to the music for them because their own experiences and memories are interwoven in the sound. So as Baldwin would put it -- when the band triumphs, it is also the triumph of every listener, and especially every Concordian. "Bloom" is attempting to distill this moment of triumph into a single still frame. It is a reminder to passerby of what is possible when music is allowed to bloom of its own accord.

Plus: The lyrics of every Avett Brothers song have been subtly incorporated around the band's name. This will add an interactive element to the art where visitors can come and search for the lyrics to their favorite song.
All proceeds go directly to funding the mural installation.
Mural prints are available for purchase at cicadabeerfest.com/prints. All money towards prints go directly to the mural!
