Mary Kate Fast Horse is a full-blooded Lakota Woman & enrolled tribal member of the Oglala Sioux. She was born on the Pine Ridge Reservation and was known to many as a Wanderer. She would explore the World with an infectious smile, a positive attitude & a unrelenting ambition. One foot in front of the other, she would dance to her favorite music with a fervor of curiosity. She existed as an extension of Mother Earth. She had a contagious personality and whether visiting with her friends, children or grandchildren, she was friendly & engaging.  She never lived beyond her means & only kept what she needed. A simple woman, she loved the finer things like a cup of coffee or an ice cold Budweiser. 

The family was notified that Mary Kate was missing a few weeks before being discovered in her home. Although there are many unknown circumstances surrounding her cause of death, we are working with King County, in Washington; we hope to determine the cause of her unexpected death, believing there may be possible foul play in this case. Today & Everyday, our Missing & Murdered Indigenous Womyn matter. Beyond being someone’s Mother, Daughter & Sister, Mary Kate was someone. Please donate what you are able to or willing to as we are working to bring her remains home for a closed casket ceremony. Mary Kate’s Family are making funeral arrangements with Sioux Funeral Home to lay her to rest in her Homelands.
