Tribute to Chris Hirsh of Scully’s Tavern
Owner / Chef
Sadly Chris passed away early Tuesday morning, September 7th, after a brief illness that resulted in a two-week stay in the Intensive Care Unit. Courageously Cass, his wife, was by his side as he earned his angel wings.
To know Chris was to know a man:
•who worshipped Cass and the life they shared together.
•who was immensely proud to be showcased by the Food Network on Guy Fieri’s television shows Diners, Drive-In’s, and Dives, Guy’s Grocery Games, Guy’s Family Road Trip, and the DIY Network's show The Vanilla Ice Project.
•who was eternally fueled by pleasing those around him with an amazing meal.
•who enthusiastically owned and operated Scully’s Tavern for over 32 years on a daily basis, rarely taking a day off.
•who never met a stranger, could strike up a conversation with anyone and find something in common to discuss.
•who had infinite compassion for everyone he knew and even those he had never met.
•who would eagerly jump at the opportunity to help someone in need, whether he knew them or not.
•who had such zest and zeal for life with all it had to offer and never wanting to miss out on a new experience.
•who never sat still…always running off to tackle that one last thing on his daily written list of things to accomplish.
•who was kind, generous, and always nurturing to everyone around him.
•and the man who originated “Pay It Forward” in countless ways, such as his traditional Thanksgiving Eve and Christmas Eve dinner feast, free to anyone that walked through the door of Scully’s Tavern for 32 years.
Chris will be missed by literally an endless number of family, friends, and acquaintances.
Since Chris didn’t have medical insurance coverage, Cass is now faced with an exorbitant amount of looming personal debt and funeral bills.
The lingering affects of Cass’ spinal cord injury last year and this tragedy have been additionally compounded by the daily struggles of keeping Scully’s Tavern open during COVID with high rent costs, staffing issues, and the necessity of having to exhaust their savings.
Like Chris, now’s the time for us to “Pay It Forward”. This is why we’re asking donations to be made to the Scully’s Tavern Chris Hirsh Gofundme account.
We greatly appreciate all of your support, phone calls, text messages, thoughts, prayers, well-wishes, etc.
Donations by check should be made out and mailed to:
