Nikolaos Pavlakos, 27 December 1988 (33)
Beloved Sons to Giannis Pavlakos and Stavroula (Voula)Stamatakou, who tragically passed away in a car accident on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021.
The funeral of both was held at the Holy Temple Nativity of Jesus Christ in Molaoi Lakonias where they grew up. Together in life together in death. Angels on earth angels in heaven. The love they had for each other was remarkable. They were more than siblings, they were best friends, always walking together through life side by side.
Panagiotis and Nikos were both born in Montreal, Canada and moved with their parents back to their hometown in Greece, Molaoi Lakonias in 1992. They went to school there, where they later worked as assistants to car mechanics in the village. Always hard workers and devoted to whatever they were in charge of.
Raised by Voula and Giannis with tons of love, they became two beautiful gentlemen. Voula and Giannis always wanted the best for their children, in this hard life they all fought together. Life was never easy for them, but together the 4 pieces of their puzzle were connected.
Panagiotis and Nikos were very responsible, beautiful inside and out, always having a kind word to share with others. They always had smiles on faces. Two unique personalities with positive energy, energy that everyone wanted to be around.
The brothers, who were practically joined at the hip enjoyed a happy childhood growing up into wonderful men. Sadly, in June 2015 Nikos at the age of 26 was given only 2 weeks of life after he was diagnosed with cancer.
Saint Savvas Oncology Hospital based in Athens immediately became Voulas and her youngest son Nikos’ home. Nikos had to immediately start chemotherapy, causing Voula to quit her job. Giannis and Panagiotis had to work 2 jobs each. They realized everything and everyone had to be sacrificed for their little Niko.
Once doctor’s began working on Nikos’ treatment, Voula was asked if they had other children and was told to be prepared for the worst. However, Nikos’ strength, his will and thirst for life, with Gods help and prayers helped Niko defeat his grim cancer diagnosis. After 6 years, a lot of body and emotional pain, that included 5 surgeries, Nikos became a true miracle and a brave cancer survivor.
Nikos and Voula were able to move back home to Molaoi but there always a fear that his cancer may return as he vigilantly kept up to date with all his monthly checkups. During his treatment Voula never left Nikos side. Voula could never forget the doctor’s words that she should be prepared for the worst. Her eyes were full of tears at nights, she however stood strong never revealing her pain to Nikos, she was his rock outside and inside.
Nikos could never go back to work, his job needed physical strength and after so many surgeries he could not do what he loved most. This made him feel worthless and caused him sleepless nights thinking of his past and his future. After work Panagiotis however tired he was, would always dedicate time to his little brother and take him for a coffee or go for a swim. Panagiotis had dedicated his life to Nikos, he did everything possibly could do to make him happy and ensure he had a nice day. Big brother Panagiotis was always in life the guardian angel of little brother Nikos. Voula had to work to be able to help her family stay financially stable, she had been through many jobs in her lifetime but her dream job was to always be a grandmother. She knew that Nikos would never be able to bless her and Giannis with a grandchild, but Panagiotis always said from the news of the illness and after that ‘’it’s not time for relationships, we have to take care of Nikos”.
On November 02 at 17:00, when they were going for coffee to the next nearest village, tragedy struck. Panagiotis was always a conscious driver; that day however was rainy. The road was slippery and 3 other accidents had happened at the exact same area on the same day. Faith decided to cut the thread of their life when the control of their car was lost (possibly when pressing down on the brake on the slippery road) and they tragically crashed into a large truck. Voula was never able to serve the boy’s dinner, which she was preparing to her beloved sons. Her heart had become charcoal.
Voula and Giannis, on the day of the funeral said instead of flowers, in the memory of their children, they wanted friends and family to donate to the Oncology Wing of the Hospital of Saint Savvas, which at point had become their second home. It was a wish to all the people, friends and family, who went to the funeral to greet Panagiotis and Nikos, beloved brothers, for the last time.
The Fathers of the church say that a mother gives birth to her child but we are all children of Virgin Mary and Virgin Mary is who decides when to meet her children in heaven. God only wants the good souls in heaven and that’s why God decided to take close to him Panagiotis and Nikos, two angels on earth and made them angels in heaven together for eternity. There is no other explanation.
Voula and Giannis were never prepared for this tragedy. She and Giannis will never be able to prepare for the tragedy that happened. Deep down inside and however macabre this hears, Voula was prepared for the loss of one of her children but never for the instant death of both.
There are no words of sympathy at these times. May God help these parents be strong together and healthy, one in the arms of the other.
One day, Voula and Giannis want to build exactly outside of their house in the memory of their children a large iconostasis. At the time they are working on placing a smaller iconostasis at the area of the tragedy.
This Devastating loss has taken a severe emotional toll but also a heavy financial one for Voula and Giannis. We, as their family, friends and loved ones realize that the best way to support this loving family during this difficult time is to help them financially. We appreciate any support that you can offer. We thank you in advance,
with many thanks,
Stamatakos and Pavlakos family
