Hello kind friends (and in this case), many kind strangers too ...
We all know how tough times are with the cost of living. Interest rates have risen at a rapid rate, rent is totally out of control, food is costing three times more than it did two years ago.
Now imagine ... after a week of not feeling well because of a sore on your foot that had become infected, being taken by your wife into the emergency department of the John Hunter Hospital, to be told you need to have a toe amputated the following day. Then two days later, having another two toes removed. Followed by an amputation on the right leg to just under the knee, two days after that. This is how life has played out for Andrew and Kylie since last Friday, changing their lives forever.
Andrew won't be able to return to his full-time job for months, and his leave will be exhausted in two weeks. Kylie is employed in a casual full-time job, which due to being by her husband's side since this happened, she hasn't been able to attend. Moving forward, she'll only be able to work part-time hours whilst caring for her husband. And she doesn't get paid for any leave taken. And just like all of us, they have regular bills to pay, as well as some very pricey extras moving forward like suitable accommodation with wheelchair access, a car conversion, and many other medical expenses such as a wheelchair, specialist bills and eventually a prosthetic.
That's what my very dear friend, Andrew, is facing right now. And I can tell you that he's not happy about me doing this. Because he is terribly proud and self-sufficient. But right now, that just isn't possible. Even though he is the type of person to help anyone in a heartbeat, he is pretty awful at accepting any kindness in return. So, he can get grumpy at me for a while and like me again later. Or not. That's just not the most important thing at the moment.
I know there are other people out there who have it far worse. And I am the first one to donate to causes when I can. But right now, it is my friend, Andrew, who needs your help. And know that if you need help in return one day, he will be there for you ... and in some cases, probably already has been.
I am running this page in conjunction with his sister-in-law, Kimberly, and we are happy to answer any questions you may have and provide full transparency of fund distribution from our end.
It is with extreme gratitude that I thank each and every one of you for taking the time to read this, and also for helping in any way that you can. Every little bit really does help.
